Our history
In November 2005 a first
volunteer from the Belgian Ngo
dReamcatcher came to Plettenberg Bay to map out the social needs in the
community. It became clear that there was a big need for specialized
day care for children with special needs. Sterreweg immediately got
the support of local organisations: Sabrina Love Foundation, the
Departement of Education, the Association for Physically Disabled,
local schools, creches and clinics...
A building was found easily:
Fiske Hall in the township New
Horizons wasn't being used most of the time and there weren't any other
social projects in this area. The municipality, that owns the building,
was very happy to lease it out to the project.
dReamcatchers then made the
project known in the community of New
Horizons and on the 7th of March 2006 Sterreweg was launched
officially for the whole community of Plettenberg Bay!
In June 2006 the renovationworks
of the building began, a local
contractor together with 3 construction teams from Belgium made Fiske
Hall in a safe and beautifull place!
Sterreweg
opened its doors for the first 9 children in October 2006!
Now, 4 years
later, Sterreweg takes care of already 24 children!
Each child has
made enormous progress and we would like to grow more as a centre so
more children can get appropriate care!
Thanks to the
Sabrina Love foundation Sterreweg has been getting more and more support
from the local community. We now work closely together to improve the
life of disabled children in Plett.
